Scene I

Time: Sunday. Mid-morning (10:00 am). Easter Sunday 2015.

Setting: Cedar Hill Baptist Church in Baxter, Tennessee in Ms. Allison’s Sunday school room

(At Rise we see MS. ALLISON at the door of her room greeting the children.)

(RACHEL is the first to come to the classroom and hugs MS. ALLISON)

MS. ALLISON

Good morning Rachel. It is good to see you this morning.

RACHEL:

Hi Ms. Allison! Happy Easter.

(MS. ALLISON sees JASON and CADE running down the hall)

MS. ALLISON

Whoa, slow down boys, you know the rules no running inside the church.

JASON

Oh come on Ms. Allison we were just having a little fun.

CADE

Yeah, we were racing to see who could get up here first.

(MS. ALLISON gives them a look)

MS. ALLISON

I don’t care what the reason for you running, I have told you many times and I know your parents have told you not to run inside the church.

(MS. ALLISON then sees the last of her children, MADISON and CHLOE who are dressed in coordinating Easter dresses)

MS. ALLISON

Hi girls, wow those dresses are very pretty.

MADISON

Thank you! Mama got them for us to wear, so we would be all matching today.

CHLOE

Mommy said we both look very cute.

MS. ALLISON

She is right you both look very cute.

(Everyone takes there seat around the table and MS. ALLISON shuts the door so they can start class)

MS. ALLISON

Good morning class.

(Pause. Knock at the door. One of the ladies of the church is bringing CARLY to her classroom)

Good morning Carly. You are just in time for Sunday school

CARLY

Hi, Ms. Allison

MS. ALLISON

Carly, do you want to introduce yourself to the rest of the class

(CARLY shakes her head no)

Okay, that’s fine I will.

(Pause)

Boys and girls this is Carly and she is new, so please be nice to her, because what’s our motto class?

ALL, but CARLY

Treat others the way you want to be treated.

MS. ALLISON

Very good. Now let’s start class. Today is very important Sunday. Can anyone tell me what Sunday this is?

(Everyone but CARLY raises their hand)

MS. ALLISON

Let’s see Chloe can you tell me what Sunday this is?

CHLOE

Today is Easter Sunday.

MS. ALLISON

Very good! Can anyone tell me the reason why we celebrate Easter?

(Pause)

Madison can you tell everyone why we celebrate Easter

MADISON

We celebrate Easter because, every Easter we remember the resurrection of Jesus.

(CARLY slowly slips up her hand)

MS. ALLISON

Yes, Carly do you have a question?

(CARLY slowly starts to nod, before speaking)

CARLY

I am new here. This is my first Sunday at church. I am confused on why we celebrate Easter and the true meaning of Easter. Could you explain it to me?

MS. ALLISON

Of course we can, but first since it is Easter I have a special treat for snack today.

(MS. ALLISON pulls out cupcakes and cookies with Fruit Punch)

JASON

Awesome this is going to best Sunday school ever.

(JASON and CADE run toward MS. ALLISON trying to be the first to get snacks)

MS. ALLISON

Whoa, boys slow down. There is plenty for everyone.

(Pause)

And you are breaking two of my rules. Which rules are they?

(JASON and CADE stop and think for a minute before both saying them together)

JASON and CADE

No running in the room and ladies are always first.

MS. ALLISON

That’s right, so that means both of you need to get behind Madison

(Everyone takes a cupcake or cookie with fruit punch then returns to their seat.)

End Scene

Scene II

(At rise we see MS. ALLISON with the class ready to teach the class, since they have had their snack)

MS. ALLISON

Now that you all have your snack we are going to get into the lesson, but first Carly you had a question?

CARLY

Yes, what is the real reason we celebrate Easter, since it is always on a Sunday?

RACHEL

Ms. Allison can we show Carly all the different parts that lead up to the reason we celebrate Easter?

MS. ALLISON

Of course we can. I think that is a wonderful idea Rachel, very good.

JASON

Oh come on Ms. Allison do we have to do that? That sounds so boring

CADE

Yeah, Jason is right that doesn’t sound fun at all. I mean anyone with a brain could figure out why Easter is celebrated.

(CARLY starts tearing up, when she realizes JASON and CADE called her stupid)

MS. ALLISON

Jason and Cade we will have none of that in this classroom. You are not going to pick on anyone in this classroom, especially those younger than you.

(CARLY looks up at MS. ALLISON with still tears in her eyes)

CARLY

I am sorry I asked that question

MS. ALLISON

It’s okay sweetheart! That is a question anyone at any age would ask.

CADE

(Whispers to JASON) Yeah, they would ask that if they didn’t have a brain.

(MS. ALLISON shoots a look to CADE and JASON)

MS. ALLISON

That’s it I have had enough of your behavior this morning. Jason you stay put and Cade I want you here in this seat next to me.

CADE

What Ms. Allison this is so unfair.

MS. ALLISON

No Cade, what is unfair is the way you and Jason are acting this morning.

(MS. ALLISON continues on with her lesson)

Now Carly back to the answer to your question, well we are going to act out what happens and why we celebrate Easter.

RACHEL:

Ms. Allison, can I play the part of the other Mary?

MS. ALLISON

Rachel, of course you can. Now I have all the other parts in a hat, come pick one slip up paper to find out what part you will be doing.

(ALL but CARLY and JASON pick a slip of paper out of the hat)

Carly, don’t you want to act out one of the parts?

CARLY

Oh, I am sorry Ms. Allison but since it is my first time I would rather watch, so I can ask questions

MS. ALLISON

Alright that is fine. Jason why are you not participating in class?

JASON

Because, I don’t want to do this

End Scene

Scene III

(At rise we see MS. ALLISON with her Bible open to Matthew 28:1-10 (NLT), and all the kids, except CARLY and JASON ready to act out the parts)

MS. ALLISON

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3 His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4 The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. 5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 7 And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”8 The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message. 9 And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.”

CHLOE (as MARY MAGDALENE)

Come on Mary let’s go take these spices to put Jesus’ body.

RACHEL (as THE OTHER MARY)

That sounds like a wonderful idea, we need to keep his body nice, now that he is in the tomb

(CHLOE as MARY MAGDALENE and RACHEL as THE OTHER MARY run to the tomb of Jesus)

CHLOE (as MARY MAGDALENE)

Look, the stone has been rolled away from the front.

RACHEL (as THE OTHER MARY)

And there is an angel standing guard in the front of the tomb.

(MADISON as THE ANGEL)

Hi, do not be frightened. Why do you seek the living among the dead?

(CHLOE as MARY MAGDALENE and RACHEL as THE OTHER MARY look confused at each other)

You are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here has risen just as he said he would. Look this is where his body laid.

(CHLOE as MARY MAGDALENE and RACHEL as THE OTHER MARY look in the tomb)

RACHEL (as THE OTHER MARY)

Come on let’s go tell the disciples then go into Galilee and see Jesus.

CHLOE (as MARY MAGDALENE)

Okay, and remember what the angel told us

(CHLOE as MARY MAGDALENE and RACHEL as THE OTHER MARY go tell the disciples then into Galilee where they see CADE as JESUS)

CHOLE (as MARY MAGDALENE)

Look, Mary there is Jesus over there

RACHEL (as THE OTHER MARY)

That is Jesus, let’s go see him.

(CHLOE as MARY MAGDALENE and RACHEL as THE OTHER MARY run to CADE as JESUS and grasp his feet and worshipped him)

CADE (as JESUS)

Hi ladies. Don’t be afraid. Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee and they will see me there.

CHLOE (as MARY MAGALENE) and RACHEL (as THE OTHER MARY)

Of course anything for you Jesus.

(All the kids come out and take a bow)

End Scene

Scene IV

(At rise we see MS. ALLISON ready to answer any questions CARLY might have)

MS. ALLISON

Now, you see Carly since Jesus is no longer in the tomb he is alive with God in Heaven.

CARLY

But Ms. Allison what made Jesus have to die?

MS. ALLISON

Well you Carly we are all sinners, no one on this Earth will ever be perfect. The only perfect and sinless man was Jesus.

CARLY

What’s a sinner?

MS. ALLISON

A sinner is someone who does wrong things, like when you disobey your mommy and daddy.

CARLY

So Jesus never disobeyed his mommy or daddy?

MS. ALLISON

That’s right Carly. Even though he lived a perfect, sinless life he chose to come to Earth and give up his own life, so that if we become children of God, we can have that hope of eternal salvation and spend forever with him in Heaven.

CARLY

How can I become a child of God?

MS. ALLISON

Well you need to know your ABCs

CARLY

I already know my ABCs. I am in first grade remember.

MS. ALLISON

Not those ABCs silly girl! I mean the ABCs of becoming a Christian. A- Admit that you are a sinner. B- Believe that Jesus is the Son of God. C- Confess your faith in Jesus as your Savior and Lord.

CARLY

Oh okay I get it now. Thank you Ms. Allison for explaining things to me, and for making this a great first day in Sunday school. I will definitely be back next week.

MS. ALLISON

You are most welcome. I cannot wait to see you back again next week.

(Turns her attention back to address the whole class)

Now class we have made it through another great Sunday school class. I am going to close out in prayer. Then, I have some treat bags for you all.

(MS. ALLISON prays, hands them their treat bags, then stands at the door smiling as they leave)

I'm Back

Hey! Sorry for the long stint of not posting, after I posted "Hope for Hope" life got crazy with school and everything else. Also, I have had huge writers block, where I haven't been able to think of topics for my plays. However, I am back and hope to be posting a new play on here real soon; that I am sure you will all love!

Introduction

For this first post I am going to give an introduction about my blog and how and I started writing plays. As you can tell by the blog title this blogs is dedicated to my original plays that I write. I am a college freshman taking an Intro to Theater class, THEA 1030, and an assignment we just had was to write a one scene play with only two characters and they both had to want the same thing. After this assignment I realized this something that I enjoy, being creative and writing my thoughts into play form and making the script. I will try to post a new play at least once a week. The plays I will write will vary in theme, as it will be me writing whatever comes to mind. With all this being said I hope you all enjoy reading my plays and I welcome any comments you have for me,
