This that first play I wrote. This is the actual play with only one scene I wrote for my THEA 1030 class, so without further ado I give you: The Crush Caper
Cast
of Characters:
Roxanne………………………………………….College junior early twenties,
friend to Claire
Claire……………………………………………..College freshman late teens,
friend to Roxanne
Time: Tuesday, Dead Hour (11:00 am-12:00 pm). Winter
of 2015.
Setting: UC in Starbucks at a 3 person table.
(AT
RISE we see ROXANNE, college junior in Starbucks waiting for CLAIRE, so they
can talk)
ROXANNE
Hey Claire, you’re late where were you?
(CLAIRE
enters Starbucks and sees ROXANNE and walks her way)
CLAIRE
Calm down I told you I would meet you during dead
hour, I did not give you a specific time
ROXANNE
Well we only have less than an hour to talk, and this
is serious business
CLAIRE
Oh my gosh just chill and tell me what you wanted to
talk about
(ROXANNE
gets all happy and smiley)
ROXANNE
So you remember that guy we both have had a crush on
for like ever?
CLAIRE
Oh, yeah Luke why?
ROXANNE
Well he asked me out on a date to see American Sniper,
and I said yes
CLAIRE
What?? You have got to be kidding me. Please tell you
joking.
ROXANNE
No I am not kidding he asked me out during
Interpersonal Communications, and I agreed is that so wrong.
CLAIRE
I do not know what to say. We have been friends since
I started college and you just betray me like this, you knew how much I liked
him.
ROXANNE
Look, I know you liked him, but that does not change
the fact I have affection for him too.
CLAIRE
Why do you this, you see something I want then, prey
on it then go after it.
ROXANNE
Oh my gosh Claire, what is with all the dramatics you
are such a drama queen.
CLAIRE
What’s it to you, at least I have emotion about this,
if it was flipped you would not even care if went out with Luke.
ROXANNE
Yeah right whatever, you just cannot stand that even
though we both wanted Luke, I got him and there is nothing you can do about it.
(CLAIRE
starts getting furious raising her voice a little)
CLAIRE
You really think there is nothing I can do. Come on
you know me better than that.
ROXANNE
Look can you not just be happy for me, I mean really
this cute guy asked me out.
CLAIRE
Be happy. You really want me to be happy for you.
ROXANNE
Yes that is genuinely what I want from you.
CLAIRE
Well you can forget it. There is no way I am going to
be happy for you.
(ROXANNE
starts to laugh at CLAIRE)
ROXANNE
You have no idea how stupid and funny you look
CLAIRE
I do not even care just shut up, I mean really you
should feel pretty stupid getting yelled at by a freshman
ROXANNE
Why do you even like him, he is a senior, there is no
way he would ever go for a freshman pest like you.
CLAIRE
So let me get this straight, you think that I would
not stand a chance with him, just because I am a freshman
ROXANNE
Great, I am glad you understand
(CLAIRE
gives ROXANNE a dirty look)
CLAIRE
Oh, yeah thanks. And you know what else I understand?
ROXANNE
What?
CLAIRE
Do you really want to know what I understood from
other people?
ROXANNE
Yes, really Claire just tell me
(Pause)
Come on out with it, spill your guts.
CLAIRE
Well, from what I understood from those who have seen
you around campus saw you running around, chasing after Luke like he was the
last guy on Earth. Now tell why would he go for a junior pest like you?
ROXANNE
Look whatever I don’t give a care what people say
about what I did. I should have never told you.
CLAIRE
You are right you should not have, because you knew I
wanted to go out with him and you had to go for him.
ROXANNE
Just forget what I just told you, since you cannot be
happy for me.
CLAIRE
Whatever you are the one brought it all on yourself.
ROXANNE
Well then I guess we are not friends anymore.
CLAIRE
Whatever floats your boat, considering you are ending
our friendship due to your own stupidity.
(ROXANNE
storms out of Starbucks. CLAIRE waits a few seconds then storms off to class)
